Almost halfway through March + Fun tips with friends!

Kia Ora friends and family! Welcome back to another blog post by Dog Pals! These last few weeks we've gone on a few fun walks all over Auckland and the pack has been going hard with the hīkoi. We're growing and we also introduced a few new friends to the pack! This week we introduced Beanie and we will soon be introducing a second Luna and a Rusty to the pack!

Above we have Beanie! You would never guess it, but she's 13 human years old! That is 91 in dog years! Incredible! On walks, she's quite the explorer! We can't wait to have more of her around with us!

Now to the fun tips with friends, talking to a lot of my friends has taught me some things I may not have noticed and I have to give credit where it's due! Check out the list below and see if you can find out something interesting!

  • Dogs are very aware of energy so you have to be aware of the energy you bring.

  • When you pet a dog who doesn't know you, you should pet them in places where they can see your hands such as the cheeks or chin - they might not appreciate it on the top of the head as much as it's a blind spot.

  • It's a good idea to allow a dog that's never met you to approach you rather than you approach them.

  • A place that's good to scratch dogs is in spots that they can't reach:

    • right above their tails

    • belly

  • When dogs have the problem of eating p**p (a behavior that arises due to several factors) one way to stop them is by way of classical conditioning - now just full disclosure this gets a little gross. What you do is you leave the p**p out knowing that a dog will attempt to eat it you season it heavily with pepper and paprika so that when they try to eat it they'll get the burning sensation instead and begin to associate the spicy sensation to the act of eating the p**p.

Thanks for taking the time to read up! If you learned something then we're glad! If you already know all of the above then you must be a canine expert! In any case, have a wonderful day! Dog pals out.
